Alisa Peoples and Calvin Yarbrough's music is like a breath of fresh air - a perfect fusion of soul, disco, and pop. Their manager and producer Lonnie Simmons never lets the sound get too heavy or too light. The pleasantries include 'Don't Stop the Music,' 'Heartbeats,' 'Be a Winner,' and 'Come to Me.' The late 80's saw Yarbrough & Peoples come in with one of my ole skool faves, DON'T STOP THE MUSIC.ULTIMATE JAM!!! After playing, there were quite a few cuts that just went pass me thru the years.totally forgot about them. They were a talented two.

If this is a product called showtime, that could be a Bad Thing (tm). A media application that has the same name as the movie channel? Sounds like grounds for a trademark lawsuit to me. Mighty Mouse is a little harder to cause consumer confusion: one's an computer mouse, the other is a cartoon character. But a movie software application and a movie channel? hmmmmm....

I heard I think here at macrumors that Sony's mp3/phone is selling like hotcakes and I think they branded it as a walkman/cell phone.
What I hope is that the iPhone will be on Cingular, since my entire family and most of my friends are on it. I'd pass on the phone if they do one of those new deals where you're piggy-backing on other networks like Alltel (alltell, altell??) or it's on another carrier.

I think iPhone better to be an UNLOCK phone.

Hilarious to all those people who jumped on the THUNDERBOLT bandwagon. No thunderbolt devices yet and they have the hideous old case design.

using the keyboard, how quaint
Far faster than using the mouse. Mac OS X is very good at providing keyboard shortcuts, far better than Windows, although that may have changed with Windows 7.
I don't even get the point of your snarky comment. You know damn well that the functions are also available via the menus and right mouse button too.

I'm actually surprised this doesn't happen more often. Applestores must be filled with cash. I would think one would be a bit easier to rob than a bank.
I see no reason why anyone would carry cash...
You do not have to have a credit card you can have a debit card and pay with that.... cash has no place in retail anymore. This would solve a hell of a lot of hold up issues.
The only people who need to deal in cash are drug dealers.

iOS is losing marketshare for over 2 years now, so nothing really new there in that prediction. WP7 devices are available unlocked in Europe for around 250 (Omnia 7 16 GB, 19% VAT included) which is on par with the iPod touch (8GB, 210 , 19% VAT included).
So overall WP7 will grow really fast especially when Nokia will release their phones.

I don't know what the status on MBPs in other countries is, but back here in good old norway, no apple outlet has MBPs in store (though they have plenty of MBs, even though the MBs are the killer sellers). Both apple store and the various apple outlets I've talked to won't have MBPs in store for another 14 days (11 days now), which (in my screwed up head, atleast) fits very well with an apple event the 25th.
It also suggests that if new laptops are released, only the MBPs will see the upgrades. Apple store _does_ display the normal 'ships within 24 hours' message on MBPs, but a couple of phone calls revealed they're on the same two-week lack of MBPs as normal stores.
I don't really care much for the merom, but other possible updates are enough to make me wait a bit. Hoping photokina is where my wait will be over :)

Kind of a huge gap, don'cha think? For an extra $100 I can nearly TRIPLE the capacity? Why would I even consider a 30 GB model?
Well, obviously YOU wouldn't but not everyone has an extra $100.00 bucks or feels that the extra storage is worth the cost.

Merom MBPs of course :D
I second this emoticon!
If anyone at Apple HQs is listening, please give us a revved up/priced down MBP. Merom + 160 GB/7200 rpm hdd at $1999 would be sweet. I don't care to watch movies on anything less than a 50' screen, and I sure as hell am not moved to tears by an 8GB nano that is priced at 75% of a regular iPod. C'mon Apple, it's not too late!

But because not all applications and tasks take full advantage of the Mac multiprocessing capabilities,
And I'm thinking... why?! 10 years ago BeOS had this down pat. The whole system was multi-threaded and multi-processor aware from the kernel all the way up through the user interface including the system services used by all native applications. It was amazingly responsive and was reported (in major publications) to gain as much as 60-70% performance by having a second CPU. I realize MacOS X is based on some old NeXTStep code which was not made for multiple processors, but come on! This is the 21st century and Apple's been selling dual processor machines for about 5 years now.
Anyway, this is great news. I'd been drooling over the new iMacs since they were announced and wondering how much I might gain by upgrading from my 2GHz G5 PowerMac. It's very enticing.

Creative's stock up 30% in after-hours trading. The $100 million is a drop in the bucket for Apple, but it will certainly help Creative...
Which is probably why they sued. Knowing they are running out of cash, they figured 'Let's jump on the bandwagon and sue someone'.

There's also one other thing:
Sweden | 9.29 million people
United States | 309 million people
(2010 estimates)
Population does count. We probably have 10 Swedens worth of people that are in the same situation as Sweden itself.
Sadly, it does appear that USA is on a downward slide with all the problems lately but we could still recover if we could just do something about it.

There are software solutions that promise a different future than what you envision. DXO Optics made an announcement recently about using software to drastically correct cell phone camera pictures. Shouldn't be long...
the G5 PowerBook shouldnt be that long either.
I will trust it when I see it. Heck, why do professional photographers spend much more on the optics, than on the house? Picture quality is all in the optics.

This is exactly what we have been predicting in the article Apple movie downloads soon, what about the TV?. (http://10layers.com/2006/09/apple-movie-downloads-soon-what-about-the-tv/)
Apple has been driving iPod sales with music sales. We think that they will be driving some new device sales with movie sales. In addition, we do not think that movie downloads will go mainstream until it is convenient to view them on the best device: your home entertainment system. This is what Apple has been redying before launching movie downloads. Apple want the picture to be complete.

I'm a Green Peace supporter, but with Bush in the Whitehouse, don't they have bigger fish to fry?
It took almost 20 posts before GWB was mentioned. It seems the attention span of some folks is actually getting longer.
Now back on point, please.
The only reason GP is targeting Apple is because they think they actually have a shot at getting them to do something, and once Apple moves in response to GP, then they have ammo to go after the others.
GP is a dead movement - we need a fair, equitable organization to take its place.

Because an AMD based system is for those Windows using pigs.
Tell that to Apple. If Apple ever ships an AMD system and decides to use an AMD platform for the next Air, combined with a 6000 series GPU, I'd be all over that as an upgrade.
For now, there is no reason to speculate on AMD systems from Apple.

WOW this is a major privacy breach.
With any cell phone (smart or otherwise) the telephone networks have been able to track your movements. All you need to do is to keep it turned on. Not much you can do about this, except hope they don't exercise that ability. Turning the device off frequently can help somewhat... they don't know where you've been (or where your device has been) when the device is turned off.
So I'm going to buy an iPad (Wi-Fi only). I'll either turn it off or close the cover (putting it to sleep) when I'm not using it. I would like to see old location data automatically deleted and to have the option of not backing up location data.
Does the MBP have anything similar inside? No reason why it couldn't.

Call me clumsy or whatever, but I hate the 'corners': I accidentally trigger them all the time on a frien's machine. Mostly because I use the Apple menu a lot. I DO miss the old mouse's side buttons/center button!
Experienced mac users know to assign modifier keys to those corners to prevent that. I have the top left corner set to turn my display off (good for porn), but only when the command key is pressed.

How are you MBP owners liking your Thunderbolt port? Do you feel like someone with a DVD disk in 1975?
Apr 30, 07:39 PM
Similar, but not the same. The new design came out in October 2009.
New sizes, new aspect ratio, removal of plastic from the enclosure, removed the outer aluminum bezel, etc. And new guts, of course.
Yes you are correct. After a little digging is was a considerable upgrade. Even though the look stayed close. I almost wish mine would take a bomb so I would upgrade.

Yarbrough (born Calvin Yarbrough) & Peoples (born Alisa Peoples) were an R&B duo from Dallas, Texas.
Calvin and Alisa met when they were children. They both took lessons from the same music teacher and attended the same neighborhood church where they both sang solos in the church choir.
After their college years, Alisa worked a regular job while Calvin played keyboards & sang in a band called Grand Theft. Musicians Robert, Ronnie, and Charlie Wilson (who would later be known as the Gap Band) were in the audience for one of Grand Theft's shows and offered Calvin a job as a background vocalist on the Leon Russell tour they were a part of.
Once the tour ended, Calvin returned back to Dallas and played local gigs with Grand Theft. Around 1977, Alisa sang a song with the band during one of their club dates.
In 1977, the Wilson brothers joined Total Experience Records as the Gap Band & went to Dallas to perform a concert.
Later that evening as they were winding down after the show, they caught Calvin and Alisa performing and as a result, Total Experience Records owner, Lonnie Simmons invited them to Los Angeles where they began playing in clubs around Southern California. Two years later, the duo signed to Total Experience Records.
In 1980, Yarbrough & Peoples released their debut album, 'The Two of Us' which peaked at #16 on the Billboard 200 chart and topped Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
The first single, 'Don't Stop the Music' became a hit, peaking at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April of 1981 and topped Billboard's Hot Soul Singles chart for 5 weeks, staying on the chart for 27 weeks. The song has been sampled by artists such as Puff Daddy, Playa, Eve, and Keyshia Cole.
The follow-up single from the album, 'Third Degree' peaked at #74 on Billboard's Hot Soul Singles chart, staying on the chart for 5 weeks.
In 1983, the trio released their sophomore album, 'Heartbeats' which peaked at #25 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
The title song peaked at #61 on Billboard's Hot Dance MusicClub Play chart and #10 on Billboard's Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 17 weeks.
The follow-up single, 'Feels So Good' peaked at #20 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 11 weeks.
In 1984, Yarbrough & Peoples released their third album, 'Be a Winner' which peaked at #6 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
The first single, 'Don't Waste Your Time' peaked at #48 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June of 1984 and topped Billboard's Black Singles chart for a week in May of 1984, staying on the chart for 21 weeks.
The title song peaked at #20 on Billboard's Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for only 13 weeks.
Yarbrough And Peoples Come To Me
In 1985, Yarbrough & Peoples released their last album to date, 'Guilty' which peaked at #13 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
The first single, the title song peaked at #2 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 21 weeks.
The follow-up single, 'I Wouldn't Lie' peaked at #93 on the Billboard Hot 100, #34 on Billboard's Hot Dance MusicClub Play chart, and #6 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 16 weeks.
Yarbrough And Peoples The Two Of Us
The last single from the album, 'Wrapped Around Your Finger' peaked at #46 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 9 weeks.
After that, Calvin and Alisa left Total Experience Records and got married the following year.
They returned to Dallas and started their own music production company called Yarbrough & Peoples Productions and they continue to write & produce music, perform concerts and mentor other gifted newcomers.
Most recently in 2009, they appeared in the off-Broadway musical, 'Blind Lemon Blues' at the York Theatre in New York where Calvin portrayed the role of Lead Belly.
