In this video I show how I have my joystick and keyboard setup to fly in the X-Wing Games. This applies, with slight differences, to the games X-Wing, TIE-Fi. I have an Xbox 360 controller but it does not detect it in the controller calibration. Make sure the joystick you want to use in Xwing Alliance is the OS joystick 1. You can physically unplug all your joysticks including wireless dongles and then plug in the joystick you want to use. It should then default to joystick 1. X-wing alliance keyboard controls.
